Older Adult Safe Driving Program
The Nova Scotia Federation of Seniors and Pensioners offers a safe driving program for older adults across the province that hold a valid Nova Scotia drivers Licence and are 65years of age or older. Seniors who have taken a previous program will qualify for another program after five years.
The program is designed by the Canada Safety Council. It is approved and sponsored by the Nova Scotia Government. The course is free of charge; participants only pay for the program manual at minimum cost which they keep.
This is a six-hour program, usually covered over a two day period (afternoon and morning). It is not a driving course; it is an education refresher program that focuses on your driving skills and on the many distractions facing senior drivers. There is no driving exam, no written tests and will not affect your driving record.
Classroom materials are supplied as well as light refreshments. The program allows you to review the “Rules of the Road”, discuss areas of concern, and interact with the local traffic authority.
The Federation of Senior Citizens & Pensioners can offer the program anywhere in Nova Scotia. For additional information please contact Bernie LaRusic at 902-562-1901 or firstname.lastname@example.org
